Treating Normal Skin: Choosing The Right Ingredients

Get The Best Advice For Normal Skin

Treating Normal Skin – Understanding what ingredients in products can do for your skin: Following from the last article RECOGNISING YOUR SKIN TYPE  we have now determined what skin type we have.  The next step would be to know which ingredients to use specific for our skin types that will benefit our skins and our skin regime.

My skin is a combination skin type specifically it is oily and sensitive so I need to be careful which products I use. Often with skin products I either experience a mild redness or even a reaction (rash, breakouts, etc.) so there are very few products I can use comfortably. Currently I am using the Dermaceutic Advanced Cleanser, Dermaceutic Active Retinol 0.5 at night and SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic. These products have not produced any reactions so far and have definitely benefited my skin. The main ingredients in these products are Retinol, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, and glycolic acid in the face wash.

My aim is to promote collagen and elastin and to improve the radiance and glow of my skin and to reduce the pores, oil production and finally improve the texture of my skin and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. This article is how a few correctly chosen ingredients can have a maximum effect on your skin.

Ingredient and product choice is dependent on skin type firstly so now that we have decided on what skin types we are let’s look at the specific ingredients and finally at the best product choices.

Normal Skin:

Wow you are lucky if this is your skin type. It heals beautifully and ages slowly with little to no visible pores, smooth texture and few sensitivity reactions. This does not mean we should not use products with great ingredients as they will only help to maintain that perfect complexion and almost effortless skin appearance.

Your number one priority is sun screen and the best ingredients are zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. The main reason for this is that these ingredients have shown to reflect all UV rays preventing damage to our skin. This is the main reason for the sunscreens on SkinMiles. They all contain one or the other or both. SunCeutic; Heliocare & SkinCeuticals

Next on the list is a good face wash and here I recommend one that has glycolic acid. This helps to prepare your skin for further ingredients in your moisturisers and serums. A low concentration is fine so one can use a 5 or 10% glycolic face wash with no concerns of reactions but still getting maximum benefits.

Next on the list are a day and night cream to moisturise and stimulate collagen and elastin. Here we are looking for glycolic acid, polyhydroxy acids, stem cells, and growth factors. Please check the NeoStrata and Dermaceutic ranges for these ingredients. A nice to have is an anti-oxidant like the SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic (my personal choice) for day time use.
